This table is one of my favorite tables I’ve ever made and I think it always will be.
I made this table using a dark walnut slab that was 30 inches wide by 8 feet long by two inches thick and is absolutely stunning. The epoxy I used and what I use for almost all my projects, is called Ice Cast epoxy with black dye I usually use pigment to colour my epoxy but when I do black I always use dye.
When I am working with black the sanding process takes quite a bit of time because when you sand the epoxy it turns white so to get rid of those I sand the whole top to at least 2000 grit for a really nice shine. The finish I used for this project was tabletop epoxy its an awesome product that will keep your table looking new for years to come.
The process of making the stand was a total headache but it was worth it the stand is perfect and super strong. I made it using 1’x2′ rectangle steel to make all of the bars go up on an angle with a frame made with 1’x1′ square tubing covered by a 3/16 thick sheet of steel. After I finished welding I had a lot of grinding and sanding to do before I even thought of touching the paint gun.
The painting process wasn’t easy either, but with two coats of primer and three coats of paint this stand turned out stunning.
